Re: [Lug-Nuts] Compiling the Kernel from Red Hat source

I just got back from a Red Hat class. The instructor told us (I have not
verified this) that Red Hat ships two versions of the source -- one RPM contains
"virgin" kernel code, and includes all the Red Hat patches as separate files that
you can use or ignore as you see fit. They also package the source in another
RPM that already has the Red Hat patches installed. If you are trying to rebuild
the standard kernel as shipped by Red Hat (plus a few of your own tweaks), it
sounds like you should go the with the 2nd of the two sources.

Unfortunately, I didn't write down the name of the patched RPM file, but I
believe it had the string SRC toward the end of the file name.

P.S. I needed to patch the kernel some time ago to get my OnStream DI30 internal
tape drive to work. It is now working, and its GREAT for home / small office
use. 30GB capacity (15GB native), 900K+ per second uncompressed, and very quiet.
