Blurb from the founder (brian)

Hey everyone,

This meeting I decided to go for an item that would interest a lot a people. IP masquerading is useful when you want to share a single internet connection with several computers on your local network. I use IP masqerading on Slackware which can be configured with a few quick modifications and you got it going. For more information take a look at the IP Masquerading HOWTO.

I went to the Linux Installfest yesterday and brought my newly built machine to install linux. There I found expert who aided me with configuration Apache so I can have a group of people author the web documents. The install fest looks like a great idea, and I believe we could benefit greatly from hosting one too. If you are interested in helping organize an install fest please let me know.

I talked to one of the members of SVLUG and he said rumor had circulated that I wanted to keep the Sacramento Linux Users Group small. My immediate interpretation was that I wanted to keep it all to myself, and I felt a small sense of indignation. Of course he advocated making the group larger, more the merrier. Being at the SVLUG install fest, I wished we had install fests like the one that they have , so if bigger is what it takes to get that, then that is what I would like to see. Actually my ultimate goal in the Sac Linux Users Group is getting users together where we can share our knowledge. To me one of the greatest ways to do that is in a small setting with a computer in front of us. Obviously with a hundred people at a meeting and trying to demonstrate something on a computer and having everyone see it is not all too practical. It does look like that with the install fest you do have that.

I would like to also have speakers at our meetings. First thing I can identify needed to have a larger meeting is a larger room. With the current room we have, a large meeting won't work. I am sure there are other issues to deal with, so I will be thinking about those too. If you know of a room available, let me know so we can get started on having larger meetings. Anyone is welcome to the current meeting. It just means that we can only have fifteen people welcome at a meeting at the current location.

See you at the next meeting.
