Oh, that's bad.

Your printer is right next to being a paperweight as far as making it
print with it directly connected to your parallel port on your Linux
box. Take a look at the printing HOWTO, and it lists your printer as
only having partial compatibility. You see, HP does some funky stuff
in that printer and windows does most of the work. Some guy did hack
the protocol and reversed engineered a linux driver, but you yourself
are in for what I would estimate at least a couple weekends of work. I
suppose you can try printing to it as a networked printer on your windows
machine. You would use smbclient or something like that. I have yet to
do that because printing in Linux is way better than windoze. This of
course assumes you get printing working.
